From our guest book

June 2017: We’ve returned to this house and village that we love for a short stay only this time alas, 10 days instead of 4 months.  Paul and Pippa’s place is as light filled, comfortable and welcoming as ever.  It’s a joy to sit on the terrace early in the morning with a cup of tea (and croissants from Lucco) or at sunset with the swifts flying overhead.  Despite this month’s unusual high tempseratures, the house with its thick stone walls has stayed cool.  We’ve enjoyed exploring surrounding villages (Limeuil, Sarlat, Daglan) and swimming in the Dordogne at Baynac and Le Coux, and catching up with locals and expats, but most of all we love returning at the end of the day.  Hope to be back again soon! Many thanks – Sheila and Jim, Washington DC.

Ps- Must add we visited the goats as La Chevre et le Chou, a bio farm at Meyrals and do recommend!

-Also recommend lunch at Sesame and dinner at Le Cro Marin – delicious and lovely people.

This was such a fabulous setting during our tour of the Dordogne. Being right in town was amazing as we were easy walking distance to everything and the town itself is absolutely charming. We loved being able to get to all the great spots in the region on days trips – and coming home to the Villa was such a treat at the end of the day. We loved being able to sit out & relax on the terrace and having a BBQ grill was fantastic. The house is gorgeous – it has all the ‘Old World’ charm with the 21st Century amenities. It is so bright and airy and very tastefully furnished. And the views out the back window to the field beside the Church were so pastoral. The town itself is perfectly charming – we walked to the bakery for our incredible selection of morning pastries, and the Sunday market has tables & tables of cheeses and breads and fruits and pates to choose from. A week was just not long enough..I think we will need to stay at least a month next time to have enough time to try everything!! Thanks so much again – we will be back for sure.

We are a family of 4 from Waikerie, South Australia.

We loved our week here, the house is extremely well set up, easy to find, well located - a pleasure to be at. Thanks to Paul (the owner) for all your advice and emails, we have loved it here! We have loved staying here and exploring the Dordogne area.

Our highlights were;

- 3 hour canoeing trip from Cenac to Beynac, amazing scenery, in hindsight we should done the 5 hour trip from Carsac!

- St. Cyprien market, this was awesome.  The fruit, the cheese, paella, meats, baskets, clothes – really fun and busy.  We went at 8:30am, by noon it was packed (not sure where all the people came from!!)

Its Sunday morning – make sure you go.  There is one Wed morning as well but it is much smaller.

- St. yprien area – what a lovely little village.  Love the cobbled, narrow streets and the buildings are gorgeous.

-Rocmadour, fascinating village hugging a cliff

-Marqueyssac Gardens, just beautiful and the views of Beynac, Fraynac and Castelnaud Castle awesome, plus the view down to Le Roque was gorgeous.  Loved seeing all the canoes on the river and thinking that was us the previous day.

-La Roque St. Christophe was a fascinating insight to life 55,000 years ago (our 11 year was very interested)

-Castelnaud Chateau/Castle is well worth the visit, we enjoyed the catapults and guns/cannons on show.

-Chateau des Milandes: beautiful gardens, interesting birds and a great insight into Josephine Baker, who we really knew nothing about.

-Forest de Singes: All our 9 year old wanted to see was monkeys, who would have thought that was a monkey sanctuary here??  It was great.  You get a tiny handful of popcorn that you feed to the Barbary Macaques.  There are plenty of monkeys around the park, they are so close and tame – its fantastic, especially for children.

After a long drive with two small children, it was wonderful to arrive at this beautiful home. Nestled in the medieval center of St. Cyprien, the house has the character and feel of an ancient heritage building – but is inviting and comfortable at the same time. The house is fully equipped with quality appliances and wifi. With three floors, there is plenty of space for both children and parents to feel at home. Our girls loved the large play area on the top floor. Sightseeing opportunities are available all year around in the Dordogne – caves, canoeing, hiking, swimming, visiting castles, farms and vineyards – you could spend several holidays here and never do the same thing twice. EquiPerigord, an equestrian center just outside town was a particular favorite (children and adults are welcome for the day, or for one- or two-week programmes), as was the Marqueyssac park – not to be missed! St. Cyprien is a great base in the region. The town is active all year around with many good local shops to explore – and in summer has near-daily concerts, markets, fairs and more. All in all, this house is an ideal place from which to explore Dordogne and Southwestern France – we can’t wait to go back again! Nov 2016: We had a delightful 4 week stay in the house a few closures (of sights and restaurants) in the area, managed to find enough to do. The house is well fitted out and we certainly gave the wood heater a decent “run”.  St. Cyprien has been a great village to be in – good Sunday markets and extremely friendly locals.

Our highlights included…

- Garbarres boat ride from Beynac

- Canoeing on the Dordogne River

- Visits to castles at Castelnaud and Baynac

- A 3 day trip to Bordeaux and the St. Emilion wine area

- Visits to local towns and villages, Sarlat, La Roque-Gageac, Daglan, Le Bugue, Rocamadour (twice), etc

- Marqueyssac Gardens

- Le Roque St. Christophe and de Proumeysac caves/sights

- Wineries in the Percharment area

- Mark and Sue, Brisbane Australia

My wife and I and our grown daughter stayed here in October, 2013 for three nights. Wish we had stayed longer. The house is situated on a small walking street a one minute walk from a street where there is plenty of free parking. St. Cyprien is a wonderful small town without too many tourists and is a good base from which to explore the Dordogne region. Although the house is old it is very up to date. Since the owner uses the house for family vacations everything is up to date — appliances, furniture, bathrooms, bedrooms, etc. Very clean and modern. There is a large capacity laundry machine which was very handy. The house is very spacious and has a nice secluded patio area. I would highly recommend this house to any of my family and friends. Cannot say enough good about it. Also, the owner provides a tremendous amount of information on what to see in the region and information on local restaurants.
